Or Herky-Jerky and Squeaky? jerry lazar 2009-11-06T17:29:24Z 2010-07-23T04:22:32Z
My new Kodak zI8 pocket video camera is wonderful in many ways. BUT the zoom stops-and-starts, and produces a squeak that is picked up on the audio track. Has anybody else had this experience? (I haven't seen it referenced in reviews.) Is it just a glitch in my camera, or a flaw with the model? Other than return it, any recommended self-administered fixes? I want to mix the audiotrack of the video and the audiotrack of the external audio clip (like 60% volume audiotrack1 and 40% volume audiotrack2) and of course now I have a problem. After about 2 minutes, they go so much out of sync that you can't use it.

Currently I only have iMovie 09 - any way of getting this done in iMovie? If not, where else?

Best from Switzerland,

Etienne
http://videowtf.com/questions/836/what-film-leader-video-is-best-for-syncing-audio-and-video What Film Leader video is best for syncing audio and video? leeand00 2010-04-14T02:54:31Z 2010-04-14T02:54:31Z
I'm looking for a film leader that is:

mjpeg

avi

Has multiple beeps for each number.

NTSC

29.97 fps

I was also thinking that if I played this film leader before the video I want to make commentary over, that I could play the beeps into the mic for just the beginning and then be able to sync it up later.

Is this a good strategy for syncing and what video do you use to do it (pay or free, and hopefully adhearing to the standards above).

Note: Can someone please tag this film-leader and countdown or something to that effect?

http://videowtf.com/questions/833/what-types-of-math-does-it-help-to-bone-up-on-when-working-with-video What types of math does it help to bone-up on when working with video? leeand00 2010-04-13T03:28:04Z 2010-04-13T15:55:21Z
I've been wondering about this for a while, it's not like I don't have any math skills, but I just wondered what kind of math would be helpful and where in the video/audio syncing field, that it would come in handy.
http://videowtf.com/questions/492/rode-video-mic-on-canon-hf200-causing-hissing-noise Rode Video Mic on Canon HF200 Causing Hissing Noise? Chris 2009-10-26T15:21:46Z 2010-03-20T14:03:32Z
When using my Rode Video Mic on my new Canon HF200, I'm getting a hissing noise in the audio tracks. I actually tried a different mic to rule out my Rode, and got the same result. Does anyone know what's causing this? The camera itself has no internal moving parts, so it's not coming from the camera. So far, the only thing I've been able to find online is it might be that the mic is mono and the camera is recording in stereo? I used Audacity to remove the noise, but this is driving me crazy. The quality of the image I'm getting from the camera is great, but I might have to return it if this is a problem inherent to the HF200. Any ideas on what's causing this and how to solve it?
http://videowtf.com/questions/685/good-and-cheap-solution-for-audio-recording-for-vidcast Good and cheap solution for audio recording for vidcast msawicki 2009-12-21T03:38:44Z 2010-01-21T05:34:01Z
Hi, I will try to make some vidcasts in near future. I know that first approaches will be hard, but one thing is very important for me. I hate bad audio in vidcasts.

I want to buy condenser microphon. I think it can't be USB microphone because I have firewire camcorder and they have big latency when recording on the PC. Probably I will not do live streams, but I don't wont to fight with av syncing. So I want to connect microphone directly to camcorder.

Unfortunately my camcorder doesn't have XLR inputs (only jack). I was nearly decided for MXL Desktop Recording Kit (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/423740-REG/MXL_DRK_Desktop_Recording_Kit.html) but I herd it has to low gain and that it rapidly consumes battery power.

So I want to buy microphone and pre amp separately. I will record in home "studio", so I prefer AC or USB power (only power, not output) instead of battery.

Now I'm thinking about Bellari MP105 as pre amp. What do You think about it? Can I found something better in similar price? And what microphone do You recommend?

My budget is about $150.

regards, Maciej Sawicki

//edit:

My new choice for preamp is: ART Tube MP Project Series Mic Tube Preamp, what do You think about it? Still I need to chose microphone

//edit2: I also thinking about Behringer XENYX 802 mixer instead of preamp. Is it good choice? Has it enough gain?
http://videowtf.com/questions/532/canon-eos-7d-w-beachtek-dxa-2s Canon EOS 7D w/ Beachtek DXA 2S Carlo Guillermo Proto 2009-11-02T22:06:33Z 2009-12-02T21:25:39Z
Does it work?

I just ordered a EOS 7D and have a Beachteck DXA 2S from my Canon GL1.

Thanks for your help.
http://videowtf.com/questions/60/overcoming-hum-in-wired-lavalier overcoming hum in wired lavalier egrodz 2009-10-07T22:13:41Z 2009-12-02T20:49:52Z
Thanks for the question about the pros/cons of wired/wireless mics, I remembered the problem we encountered today with a shoot. Prior to the lecture we tested the sound board and wireless handheld mics. Line into camera from the board was perfectly clear. Speaker arrived and was not comfortable with handheld mic so we switched to a wired lavalier. We had to scrap recording due to the hum in the line. I'm not a sound person but we've got to figure out how to eliminate this. Any thing I can make sure my AV guys troubleshoot? One person in attendance suggested that we may have a bad ground. Any other suggestions will be most helpful. The sound is not bad - put they pick up everything.

The Zoom H2 records in .wav, and .mp3. The sound quality is superior. This is a directional recorder so I can eliminate much of the background sounds.

I want to record the sound on the Zoom H2 and sync it to the video output .avi files from the cameras using iMovie 09 (may later use Final Cut Express 4 because I'll need to convert to DV, HD or ACHDV format -- another question altogether!).

Questions:

I believe it's best to record using .wav to sync, but can I use .mp3 as well?

How do even begin to sync. external audio and video files? I.e., what is the best method?

What's the best way to do this in iMovie 09?

... Skyhook 2009-10-23T13:24:36Z 2009-10-23T14:33:24Z
Hi - I need to record sound from an old cassette for a documentary I am making.

Does anyone know if there is any less low-tech way of recording the audio into FCP than just filming the speaker and recording the sound that way?

The sound quality is pretty poor anyway, that's part of the charm of it, so I guess it wouldn't make much difference. Just wondered if anyone had any gems of advice!

thanks

Chris www.vimeo.com/skyhook
http://videowtf.com/questions/181/is-there-a-command-line-tool-available-that-will-compress-the-dynamic-range-of-a Is there a command line tool available that will compress the dynamic range of a video's audio track, preferably during a transcode process? Eric Mortensen 2009-10-08T15:17:42Z 2009-10-19T17:51:01Z
I'd love to be able to systematically decrease the dynamic range of a batch of videos as part of a process that also includes ffmpeg transcodes.
http://videowtf.com/questions/432/video-blog-with-remotes Video Blog, with Remotes Robert Hinojosa 2009-10-18T21:31:32Z 2009-10-19T07:08:38Z
I currently have a two year old Panasonic SDR-H18, SD, records in proprietary format, cam kinda sucks, hard-drive storage. I want to start a video blog series, but with the ability to do remote interviews at local small businesses.

I've got about a 1500 budget to try to get a camcorder, and any mics I would need. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as a decent setup. I do have both video and audio editing software, so this is strictly a hardware solution. I do have two studio condenser mics, so my mic requirement is something that I can use on the go. With maybe a good portable lighting solution.

Looking to see if it's worth waiting until my budget increases and get a better HD cam? Or even bypass HD altogether and stick the cheapo panasonic and just get a DAT recorder and sync the recordings since the end result will be stuck on the web somewhere anyway.

Finally, is there a site like 99designs.com, but instead of design, that does a video clip intro using my assets?
http://videowtf.com/questions/364/how-do-you-like-the-zoom-h4n-for-audio How do you like the Zoom H4n for audio? shunted 2009-10-14T14:15:24Z 2009-10-14T18:54:16Z
I'm thinking of getting a Zoom H4n for audio recording for a small budget film and was wondering if anyone here has experience with it? I was also looking at a MicroTrack II.
