Hi, I'm currently living in Europe and I am about to buy, from the US, a video camera that shoots on Mini DV.
Does it matter if it is a NTSC or a PAL camera?

If the camera were NTSC, my question is: what difference does it make, since I am shooting on Mini DV?
If I'd want to send the footage to a television from Europe, couldn't I somehow convert it afterwords ?

My apologies if it's a dumb question :)

http://videowtf.com/questions/657/i-am-seeking-a-definitive-answer-on-file-formats-for-fceI am seeking a definitive answer on file formats for FCEunknown (google)2009-12-02T12:51:01Z2010-04-12T07:25:32Z

Previously I was using Sony Vegas where I could work with nearly any video, audio and image fromat I wanted.

But because I own a mac, I bought FinalCut Express a while ago. The very first thing I discovered is the inability to just drag in video formats that I was previously working with. What a pain.

So... I have multiple formats from different cameras. I found almost nothing works without having to render the timeline.

I know this is a question that depends on the source footage, but I'm looking for a simple answer. What format should I convert video files to for optimal use in FCE, and what is the most common conversion software to handle the task of preparing video for FCE?

I thank everyone in advance for their replies. Certainly I am not alone in this dilemma.

http://videowtf.com/questions/737/keep-date-created-modified-info-from-before-encodeKeep "Date Created/Modified" Info from Before EncodeGrant2010-01-27T01:04:15Z2010-02-22T01:44:53Z

I had a bunch of video files (.TODs - mpgv video, mpga audio) that were useless unless I converted them, so I did.

Once I converted them, the "Date Created" and "Date Modified" (that you see in the Finder) were obviously changed, since new files were created from the old ones. Is there an easy way to move the data for the dates from the old files to the new ones (preferably not manually)? The project I am doing is chronology-dependent, so being able to sort by date is essential.

I would be willing to convert all the files again, if there was a way to retain the info through conversion in either a different converter.

I used ffmpegx with a program called "Quick Batcher" so I could batch convert the files.
I'm on a Mac, with Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard).
Any help would be really appreciated!

I currently use Corel's Video Studio to batch convert videos to a format Vimeo can eat. It does the job, but I found that even on a quad core processor it only uses two of the cores (ie, two threads). Further, I'm converting to mpeg2 due to the limitations in the h.264 codec that comes with video studio (doesn't seem to like HD video).

I need software that:

Does batch conversions

Supports HD video in and out with no problems

Supports avchd m2ts input

Is fine with 24fps

Can be command line scripted

Great support for MP4/h.264/etc codecs

Windows

Preferably free, but I'm willing to pay for it if it's what I need and inexpensive (ie, $100 price range).

I'm interested in building an automated workflow, so if the software handles pre-roll, post-roll, overlay logos, titling, etc from a command line or script, even better!

I took a series of movies on my trip with a Sanyo Xacti camcorder. Now I'm trying to make a single movie out of them. I've tried just about every editor I can find (waxinvoker, mpeg video wizard, zwei stein, premier elements) None work well. Premier elements works for a while then crashes. Are there any programs out there that natively handle mp4 or do I have to convert my files?

I have made a wmv from a dv resolution 1 gig quicktime (project shot in DV) in flip4mac. There is one spot in the tape where there are jagged edges. It appears in a wide shot. A man in a white shirt is walking from right to left. He's pretty small in the screen. But I can't get his shirt to stop being jaggedy as his body moves.

I've tried cbr one pass, cbr 2 pass, vbr one pass and 2 pass, and constrained.

The jaggedy edge is not in the quicktime, however, when I make a lower resolution quicktime in h264 from this dv quicktime, I get the jaggedy edge too.

Any ideas on how to help?
