Hello, all. I am writing from Mathalicious, a free service which provides teachers & students with real-world math content. (Lessons explore whether music will help you run faster, Moore's Law and the history of video games, whether Wheel of Fortune is rigged, etc).

In addition to the handouts and other classroom materials, we want to provide users with videos that convey the content in an engaging and informative way. If you have a moment to view this sample skills video, we'd be grateful for your thoughts on:

How to avoid the green-screen fringing effect;

How to improve the animations to be less static (3D?), and what kinds of programs/skill sets should we be seeking (Motion, After Effects?);

General impressions & suggestions.

I know this is fairly open-ended, but we really would appreciate your expertise. Our strength is in creating meaningful math content. Video production? Not so much.

I am new to web video and would like to understand when I should use a green screen and how to use a green screen. Is there specific material that should be used? specific shade of green? Once filmed, how do you replace the green screen background with an image?

Appreciate any guidance that can be offered.

Hi guys! I'm a new vlogger and thrilled to have found this forum...

I've been using a greenscreen for the past few weeks, and no matter what I do I can't seem to get the key to look good. I've tried balancing out the light (using a Home Depot outside work light along with a bunch of standing lamps and clamp lights) but the levels aren't even. All of the lights are about 1-2 feet away from me and the screen, btw. I have a really small apartment so lighting the screen and me separately isn't an option!

The other thing I've been wondering about is the quality of the footage, i.e., maybe the resolution I'm shooting at makes the key sloppy? (The camera's a Panasonic consumer miniDV from about 4 years ago and it's on an SP setting, for whatever that's worth).

If you're still reading, you can have a look at my vlog at www.youdigest.com to see what I mean. Any suggestions are most appreciated!
