This is a stupid question I'm sure.

I have an Osprey 210 PCI card from Viewcast. I'm able to just open VLC, select capture device, and it finds it instantly and I can see the video stream from the device connected to the S-Video input of the Osprey card.

With the expensive software though such as Adobe's premiere or Pinnacle's solution, I can not find the capture device which VLC reports as dshow:/// ?

I must be missing something simple here, I simply cannot believe the costly premiere or pinnacle software cannot connect to a stream that good old VLC finds instantly.

I am very new to all this and and using MPEG Video Wizard. The original files are .vob and I have done some editing. The audio and video are now cut but when I play it back the video flows well (as it should) for a few seconds and then jumps. The audio seems fine. Any ideas?

http://videowtf.com/questions/767/is-there-a-utility-to-create-story-boards-from-a-video-file-so-that-you-can-takeIs there a utility to create story boards from a video file so that you can take notes on the storyboard screen shots?leeand002010-02-06T19:45:41Z2010-07-19T19:37:07Z

Is there software to create storyboards from a video file so that you can take notes on the storyboard screenshots at the various times?

It be neat if you could watch the movie and click a button to mark the frame for a screenshot in the list.

In the image above the red squares would be screen captures from the video file.

Additionally I'm interested in the time code being attached to the thumbnail.

Does a utility such as this exist?

http://videowtf.com/questions/44/is-any-linux-video-editing-software-considered-stable-or-goodIs any Linux video editing software considered stable or good?jakeseven2009-10-07T21:23:18Z2010-03-06T09:15:49Z

I'd consider myself a Linux hobbyist (dual boot desktop w/ windows) and definitely don't have a lot of editing experience, aside from a windows video editing program that came with my camera (it's not very good). That said, I'd really like to try a Linux video editor, but haven't seen a lot of good info on them (cinelerra, pitivi, and others).

Here's what I'd like to do:

Import video from my sony handycam with firewire (it uses the small tapes)

Cut up footage from a few of my latest races

Remix the footage with some mp3's

Post the video to a sharing site (probably YouTube)

I've read there are problems with stability and other stuff, but the articles might be out of date.

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with them? Which is supposed to be the stablest and easiest?

Have just bought a CANON HV40 HD miniDV camera for producing instructional DVDs - the camera is set on fixed focus about 2 meters from the action -after filming i transfer the movie to WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER via an EASY CAP USB DEVICE (that is using the usual yellow red and white cables) using default settings in MOVIE MAKER - then burn to DVD-R AND reproduce the DVDs on NERO. -- Question - is this ok or will i loose much quality doing it this way?

UPDATE

I found a way to roll back my new Mac Pro to OS X 10.5.8 (crazy process involving a Macbook, removable hard drive and disk imaging tools) but now EVERYTHING WORKS. Rolling back literally solved all of my problems in one fell swoop.

/UPDATE

Well, I'm at the end of my rope. After a week I've determined that Adobe Prem Pro is fundamentally unstable under Snow Leopard - OS X 10.6.

I'm getting constant freezes and complete crashes (no hang up, the program just VANISHES and often corrupts the project file in the process).

I can't even get a clean re-install of the program because the Adobe Clean Script utility doesn't detect the previous installations (despite them being there as there is carryover of program prefs, custom bins etc).

I'm at the point where I either:

a) Do a clean wipe of the drive, reinstall Prem Pro CS4 again and see what happens.

b) Roll back to OS X 10.5 and pray it resolves the issues.

Has anyone had any experience with either solution?

This is extremely dissapointing as Adobe has been vociferous in the contention that the CS4 suite is now working with OS X 10.6. It simply isn't true and borders on criminal business marketing on Adobe's behalf. I feel like they're telling me: "Who you gonna believe? Me or your lyin' eyes?" ;)

UPDATE:
I've opened a bounty on this question. Specifically, looking for a resolution of the crash on importation of any still image under PremPro CS4.

I made the switch from FCE to FCP6 but for some reason the LOG AND TRANSFER function in FCP6 won't recognize my camera as it did in FCE.

Any ideas why? or how to fix it? Or is there another way to import files? I'm using a Canon VIXIA HF100 harddrive camera with SD card.

http://videowtf.com/questions/345/syncing-externally-recorded-audio-to-videoSyncing Externally Recorded Audio to Videokeshihua2009-10-13T09:27:38Z2009-11-02T22:49:23Z

Situation:

I have a Zoom H2 Filed Recorder, Nikon D90 dSLR, Canon G9 point-and-shoot.

The 2 cameras recorder video and sound, but use "internal" mics.
The sound is not bad - put they pick up everything.

The Zoom H2 records in .wav, and .mp3. The sound quality is superior.
This is a directional recorder so I can eliminate much of the background sounds.

I want to record the sound on the Zoom H2 and sync it to the video output
.avi files from the cameras using iMovie 09 (may later use Final Cut Express 4 because
I'll need to convert to DV, HD or ACHDV format -- another question altogether!).

Questions:

I believe it's best to record using .wav to sync, but can I use .mp3 as well?

How do even begin to sync. external audio and video files? I.e., what is the best method?

What's the best way to do this in iMovie 09?

... Thanks in advance!

Which OS do you recommend, and why:

http://videowtf.com/questions/482/how-to-extract-dvd-samples-and-create-a-mashupHow to extract DVD Samples and create a mashup?jsilence2009-10-24T09:53:08Z2009-10-25T19:33:57Z

Often I thought about extracting favourite scenes from some of my DVDs and mix them up into a funny video mashup. What kept me back so far is my lacking knowledge about video tools and formats.

On a Mac, which tools and procedures would you recommend to extract scenes of approximately 5 to 20 sec duration from DVDs?

Which format would you recommend to save them in to make them suitable for a mashup?

Which video editing tool, preferably free, would you recommend for the mashup?

Is there any nice and free program for live VJ-ing? I'd love to play around and maybe show something on a party, but don't intend to do this professionally, thus expensive software is out of question.

Target display would be a normal 800x600 consumer beamer.

Hey, I am looking for any hints or resources on how to do a color correction on video. I am using Adobe Premier Pro and Final Cut Express. I am mostly shooting smaller video projects ( interviews and clips of events) in HD.

I have been working my way through it on my own, and thought I would ask for any advice. Thx.

I am pretty new to NLE and Linux (Ubuntu 9.04)
I don't succeed to capture video and need some help !

My hardware :
- cam: JVC Everio GZ-HD3 with iLink output
- PC with IEEE 1394-ExpressCard (input on PC)

My soft :
OS : ubuntu 9.04
Kino1.3.4

Installation of Kino and rights to /dev/raw1394 succeeded.
Kino recognises the cam via the iLink/IEEE1394 interface

Problem: when trying to capture to HDD, I only get black capture-screen for 9 seconds and then capture stops !
No file generated.
