I'd love to move to Ubuntu or some other Linux flavor but I'm hooked on Adobe. Any chance they'll support a Linux OS in the future?

http://videowtf.com/questions/703/adobe-media-encoder-720p-to-ntsc-widescreen-8-pixels-border-on-the-sideAdobe Media Encoder 720p to NTSC Widescreen - 8 Pixels Border on the SidePat Race2010-01-03T23:54:36Z2010-01-04T07:06:13Z

There's a slight black border on the either side of my clip when I use Adobe Media Encoder in CS4 to export a 720p AVCHD video (1280x720) to Widescreen NTSC.

I'm using the "DV NTSC" video codec with an aspect ratio of "D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2121)"

I had to fix the problem by cropping 8 pixels off the top and bottom of my source before exporting. Any better solutions out there?

http://videowtf.com/questions/50/how-to-make-my-videos-look-more-like-film/602#602Answer by Pat Race for How to make my videos look more like film?Pat Race2009-11-12T11:38:47Z2009-11-12T11:38:47Z
If you're going for a grungy film look you can overlay film noise from blank footage. The sloppy white bits at the end of home film reels works well on a multiplied layer and looks much better than film noise plugins.

You can also slightly vignette your footage (darker around the edges, brighter in the middle) or jostle the positioning of frames if you're trying to mimic rough projected footage.

Make sure to ask yourself why you want it to look more like film. Film has a lot of different looks.

http://videowtf.com/questions/501/non-recording-monitor-system/601#601Answer by Pat Race for Non-Recording Monitor SystemPat Race2009-11-12T11:23:58Z2009-11-12T11:23:58Z
Yes.

We do this when we want a better image than the small LCD will provide. Just figure out what outputs your camera has and plug in an appropriate monitor.

You'll also want to check your audio to make sure you're not picking up any noises from the monitor. We usually use ours to setup a scene and then turn it off for the shoot.

Not technically a mini-doc, a segment from the helicopter documentary "Straight Up!", showing power line maintenance being performed on live wires by a man outside a helicopter, using a type of Faraday cage.

I've never seen the whole film but this stands alone.

http://videowtf.com/questions/600/should-i-upgrade-to-windows-7-from-xp/604#604Comment by Pat RacePat Race2010-01-03T23:42:45Z2010-01-03T23:42:45ZI've upgraded to Windows 7 and kept all the same hardware. Even with some optimization, Windows 7 feels more sluggish than XP. I'd say if you have an XP system that works, keep it. If you're getting new hardware then go ahead and upgrade your OS in the process.http://videowtf.com/questions/240/will-adobe-ever-move-to-linux/275#275Comment by Pat RacePat Race2009-10-09T20:49:57Z2009-10-09T20:49:57ZIt's too bad that Adobe is waiting for momentum when I'm waiting for Adobe.
