I increase the number of views to any videos I have by posting them on various platforms. So I will add it to youtube, googlevideo, bliptv, miro, and iTunes. Some of these sites will automatically cross-post for you. I will also add links to facebook, twitter and to any blog sites I have. I try to keep the posts relevant and that will increase your views. Commenting on other videos and blogs will help with your exposure as well.

Just as a blog can be helped by having tags and keywords, they need to be relevant and accurate to be the most effective.

One thing I would try is to do google key word searches so you can customize your tags and keywords. They may even help to guide your content and titles. But again they all need to be relevant, or you will lose your long term viewers.

Like many things, it takes hard and consistent work to get the results you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

To increase exposure I use tubemogul.com, which allows you to upload the video once, and then from Tubemogulus send it to several platforms. I send every video to youtube, blip, dailymotion, metacafe, viddler and yahoo. Try that manually.

Also, they have excellent statistics. Look at mine at hombrelobo marketplace and stats

Ethically, you would simply tag your videos with the appropriate subject matter in the video. The more tags the better. Be as far ranging as you can.

Unethically, it's common on Youtube to tag your videos with the most popular tags of the day. Like "Brittany Spears" or "tits". Eventhough your video has nothing to do with these tags, your videos will pop up when people search for these tags.

When creating your video title, be descriptive, but brief. Don't try to be clever or engage in worldplay. Tell the viewer exactly why they should watch your video. Do the same with your description, but be sure to explain how this particular video fits in with your larger body of work as well.

Pick a compelling thumbnail.

I think YouTube picks the exact middle frame of the video, but services like blip.tv and vimeo.com let you explicitly set your thumbnail.

To echo Dean, thumbnails are key.

Keywords and titles are also key, but don't try to cheat the system.

For long-term growth, the best way to increase the number of video views it to develop a community around your show or videos. The numbers will be depressing at first, but over time they will grow to a sizable number. Developing a brand around the videos, setting up a simple site with a domain name will all help.

I disagree with the shotgun blast-mentality of TubeMogul because there is no way to follow up with comments, nor do I think many of the distribution points offered are worthwhile. Check out the new blip.tv dashboard; while it may distribute to fewer sites, I like the reporting more.

Disclaimer: I work for blip.tv
