Sometimes I need to post a long, but important meeting/talk for people who can't be there in person.

With Youtube I run into to the 10 min limit. I couldn't post one video to Vimeo because my video was over 500mb. Google Video apparently isn't allowing any more uploads. I don't want to chop up the video in to smaller sections.

Any suggestions for a free service to do this?

both solutions from Ryanne and jaydedman (compression), and hombrelobo (Google Apps) answer my question...so I gave a point to each, but seems like I can't choose both as the "accepted answers" to my questions (?) – VIDinLA Oct 16 at 15:14

how big is the video? have you compressed it to fit on the web? what is the time length?

blip.tv is great for longer videos, they have either no limit or a 2gig limit (i can't find that FAQ at the moment). but make sure you have compressed it to be on the web, so even a long video should be under 500mb.

another place you can upload is the internet archive which has not limit.

Internet archive is at archive.org. No limit there. As Ryanne said, blip.tv is a great place that has a very high limit and a smart player/embedcode choices. Your 30 minute video should not be bigger than 500mb anyway. Compress it a little more using the compressions settings at freevlog.org/learn – jaydedman Oct 16 at 1:49

Thank you Ryanne and jaydedman for your helpful suggestions, I think compression would solve my problem. I hadn't thought about the Internet Archive, it's been a year or two since I used it last, and at that time their video streaming was very choppy, but that may be different now. Looks like Blip.tv has a 1 gig limit, which with compression should work. Thanks again! – VIDinLA Oct 16 at 15:00

If you want to share this with few people and not the world then try Binfer. You can send large videos directly to your friends computer. Files are not stored anywhere and the transfers are encrypted, so they are completely private. The link is http://www.binfer.com

The german computer magazine c't recently tested and listed HD-capable web video portals. The article is not online as a matter of course, and then also in german, but I'll list the ones that comply to yout needs:

  • blip.tv, having no restriction in length but in filesize: 1 GB
  • exposureroom.com (called XR) having no restriction in length but recommends filesize < 1 GB
  • motionbox.com, with only restrictions on how many views you get.
  • sevenload.de, having no restriction in length but in filesize: 1.5 GB
  • veoh.com, having no restrictions at all in the criteria you list.
  • viddyou.com, having no restriction in length but in filesize: 1 GB
  • vimeo.com, having no restriction in length but in filesize: 1 GB

There is another possibility now. If you have a premium account at Google Apps you can now upload videos of up to 16 Gbs and no time limit.

Hi hombrelobo, thanks for this tip! I wasn't aware of this. It looks like it works for both Premier and Education Edition (which according to Google If your not-for-profit organization is under 3,000 users, you also qualify for the free version of Education Edition) google.com/a/help/intl/en/npo/index.html – VIDinLA Oct 16 at 15:09
