I have been gnashing my teeth over buying the Sony A1U. I think I am about to take the plunge (and take advantage of a $300 rebate that expires at the end of the year).

I would be extremely grateful for feedback from folks regarding the A1U.

I'd be using it to shoot video primarily for web (lots of outdoor shooting and natural sound, etc.), but I want an HD camera. It's compact size and good amount of features are very attractive to me. I also like the fact that it gives the option of 30f or 24f and has xlr inputs

Has anyone considered purchasing this and decided against it? Did anyone buy it but now wish they went with a different camera?

Thanks!

I love A1 because of it´s size. I don´t go very far without it. But for me this is the extra camera, it´s in my bag if something goes wrong with my Z7 or other. It´s an old camera and it´s HDV. My organisation is mooving away from HDV. The long GOP issue. Pro: Its small, nicely priced, its light for spesial recordings.Touch screen is nice. Contra: Its not very sensitive. ..at least 1 step beyond Z1.

Have you looked at the JVC GY-HM100? One thing I don't like about the A1 it's a bottom-loader. A bother when the camera is on a tripod ...

A phenomenal camera - at that price jump on it!

I used the Sony A1U for over a year and loved it. I ended up selling it because it didn't meet my needs anymore and there were many better options out there.

I wanted a camera that shot higher quality footage in low light and had better audio features. I always found that even though it had XLR the audio quality recorded was very poor.

I ended up with a Canon 5D mark II and a Zoom H4n audio recorder.
