Thus far I've yet to see the streaming quality of ABC's shows online. Their HD broadcasts really appear clear on my full screen, though they use their own proprietary player. I've seen some pretty good videos on Hulu and Youtube, but I'm really looking for any live web cams on the net that also broadcast in HD? I feel if ABC can stream a show in HD then why can't a live cam? I don't care if it's 1 or two minutes behind, just would really like it to feel live.

I'm looking for live stationary scenes like river views and city streets, basically so I can pump them full screen on one of my monitors and pretend I'm there!

Camstreams.com offers some great example webcams, but nothing comes close to HD.

Also, I see MS has a decent HD webcam on amazon for $55. I want to set up so I can inexpensively broadcast a great quality for video conferencing and such and wondered your recommendations?

One step up from that Microsoft LifeCam is the Logitech QuickCam Pro. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/505399-REG/Logitech_960_000048_QuickCam_Pro_9000_USB.html#features

I've heard very good things about it and on a fast connection it can put out an impressive image on Skype at 720p. Some of the hosts on twit.tv use it.

However, there are many other factors behind why ABC and some other professional sites look so good...

Good luck with your project!

Thanks Stan; I'll check out the LifeCam. I use Skype all the time and am thinking about dedicating two computers here and with my folks miles away. Problem is I need something totally seamless; one-touch as it were. We have elderly family members and I need them to be able to call me and see full screen without having to mess with the keyboard and mouse, or setting up speakers the microphone. etc... It's all possible and the technologies there, but putting it into effect is a challenge. – kellyllek Jan 14 at 15:22

Hi. You can watch a live HD broadcast of New York's Times Square. Pretty cool. Type in "Live Times Square cam" into google, when the video window appears, click on "Times Square in HD" button on the left.
